NOTICE IS GIVEN that we are applying to the Consistory Court of the diocese for permission to carry out the following:

  1. To remove 9no pews and to level the pew platforms from the west end of the nave north aisle, and to install a new timber floor and to introduce a new timber AV desk and storage units in the same location, with associated underfloor cable trunking.
  2. To undertake lime mortar repair and redecoration of the interior south west and north west corner of the nave.
  3. To excavate a new route for an extension to the existing external French drain to run along the north side of the tower.

In accordance with Pearce Bottomley Architects Schedule of Works ref. 5786 rev A (dated August 2024) and drawings nos. E3289 – (00)01 – P03, 5786 – (00)01 – P04, 5786 – (10)01 – C04, 5786 – (60)01 – C03 and 5786 – (80)01 – P03; On Site Archaeology Written Scheme of Investigation dated January 2024; and Black Magic Design AV product technical specification sheets.

Why?

The main reason for this work is to repair crumbling plasterwork on the walls in the north-west corner. Removing pews, panelling and plaster and improving drainage and ventilation will help address problems of rising damp, and replacing the plaster with a type more suited to the building will help prevent problems occurring in future.

As part of this work, instead of putting the existing pews back in place, we plan to:

  • Level the floor to create a new, flexible open space. This can be used for wheelchair seating, overspill from our family corner, small groups and more, whilst still allowing us to put out chairs for particularly busy services where we need the seating.
  • Replace the current temporary AV desk and cable routing with a more permanent solution, making it more comfortable for operators, improving robustness of our service streaming, hiding away cables more neatly and improving storage of equipment.
  • Create much-needed new storage space within the church, making it easier to store things close to where they’re needed and in turn freeing up space elsewhere.
