At the start of this morning’s service we had an unplanned interruption to our livestream.

What happened?

The network connection between the church and our neighbouring Community Centre – which provides the internet connection to support our streaming – stopped working.

Why did this happen?

The Community Centre end of the connection suffered a hardware failure which forced us to manually reboot the equipment. Since this is some older equipment, this involves us physically going to unplug things.

What are we doing to fix it?

As this has happened a few times before, and the equipment is close to the end of its expected lifecycle anyway, we’ve opted to replace our older TP-Link CPE210 wireless bridge units with newer EAP211-Bridge.

This brings us a number of benefits; not only do we expect the units to be more reliable (which is the most important goal here), but they also give us a faster connection between the two buildings, and they’re part of our Omada management system which lets us more easily keep an eye on their health and make sure they’re configured correctly.
