If you hear bells coming from St Mary’s please be aware that these are an electronic recording and not the actual bells which hang in the tower.

Wedding couples sometimes ask whether we have bells at St. Mary’s. The answer, in the conventional sense is no (the three original bells are still there but are not in a safe state to be rung). However – thanks to modern technology – the sound of bells can be heard, as they were for one of our weddings last year. Looking to the future we thought this would be something we could offer all couples, as well as being heard before our services. So with the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations as the catalyst, we have installed loudspeakers in the belfry which project the sound of ringing bells as and when required with the touch of the button.

If you’re interested in having the sound of bells to accompany an event, please mention it to the Vicar whilst planning.
