There are a variety of groups and activities connected with the Church or which meet in the Community Centre. Please contact the organisers as listed below or through the ‘contact us’ page.

St Mary’s Church Choir sings every Sunday at the Sung Eucharist and, on the first Sunday of the month, at Choral Evensong. In addition, the choir sings at other special services during the year including at Christmas, Epiphany, Easter and Ascension. Other annual highlights include a civic service held at Temple Newsam House in September and a Festival of Lessons and Carols held at St Mary’s Whitkirk in December.

To maintain this strong choral tradition we are always looking to recruit new choristers. The church choir is open to children (from the age of seven) and to adults. If you would like more information, or are thinking about joining the choir and wish to arrange a music audition, then please contact the Organist & Director of Music at [email protected].

Many of our church choristers also sing as part of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir. Since it was established in 2009, this choir has sung Choral Evensong on ten occasions at Ripon Cathedral and at two other services there, a ‘Diocesan Eucharist’ in 2015 and a service, in 2017, called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

The Organist & Director of Music of St Mary’s Whitkirk was appointed in 2001. He is a member of several music organisations including The Royal College of Organists and The Guild of Church Musicians. He is also the Organist of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir, a position which he has held since it was formed in 2009.

St Mary’s Church Whitkirk is an affiliated member of The Royal School of Church Music.
