There are a variety of groups and activities connected with the church or which meet in the church hall. Please contact the organisers as listed below or through the ‘contact us’ page.

Choir

St Mary’s Church Choir comprises soprano, alto, tenor and bass choristers and is open to boys, girls, men and women. The choir sing at the Sung Eucharist (10.00am) every Sunday morning. They also sing Choral Evensong (6.00pm) on the first Sunday of the month and Compline by Candlelight (8.30pm) on the first Tuesday of the month. Members of St Mary’s Church Choir take part each year in two special events at Temple Newsam House – a Carol Concert and also a Civic Service attended by The Lord Mayor of Leeds. St Mary’s Church, Whitkirk, is an affiliated member of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) whose patron is Her Majesty The Queen. If you would like further information or if you are interested in singing in the choir please speak to the Organist and Director of Music after a service or email [email protected].

The choristers of St Mary’s Whitkirk also sing as part of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir which comprises choir members from a number of churches in the Whitkirk deanery. The Whitkirk Deanery Choir was formed in 2009 and once every year since its formation the choir has sung Evensong at Ripon Cathedral as a visiting choir. Two other services where the Whitkirk Deanery Choir were invited to lead the singing at Ripon Cathedral include a ‘Celebration Eucharist’ in September 2015 to mark the 130th anniversary of the Mothers’ Union in the former Ripon & Leeds Diocese and a service entitled ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ in May 2017.
