There are a variety of groups and activities connected with the Church or which meet in the Community Centre. Please contact the organisers as listed below or through the ‘contact us’ page.

There has been a church choir at St Mary’s Whitkirk for hundreds of years and today’s choristers continue to sustain that rich English choral tradition.

The choir sings each Sunday at the Sung Eucharist and, on the first Sunday of the month, at Choral Evensong. The choristers also lead the singing at other services during the year including a civic service held at Temple Newsam House in September and a ‘Festival of Lessons and Carols’ held at St Mary’s Whitkirk in December.

Why become a chorister?

  • To lead the singing at church services.
  • Sing uplifting choral music written by renowned composers.
  • Be part of a team and make new friends.
  • The opportunity to sing at two annual choral events held at Temple Newsam House.

Who do I contact?

  • For more information about the choir.
  • To attend a choir practice.
  • To discuss joining the church choir and to book a short audition.

Whitkirk Deanery Choir

Many of our church choristers also sing as part of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir. This choir has sung Choral Evensong on ten occasions at Ripon Cathedral and at two other services there, a ‘Diocesan Eucharist’ in 2015 and a service, in 2017, called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.
