There are a variety of groups and activities connected with the Church or which meet in the Community Centre. Please contact the organisers as listed below or through the ‘contact us’ page.

St Mary’s Church Choir sings every Sunday at the Sung Eucharist (10:00am) and, on the first Sunday of the month, at Choral Evensong (6:00pm). The choristers also sing at other special services during the year to celebrate the major Christian festivals. Other annual highlights include singing at the Festival of Lessons and Carols which is held at St Mary’s Church in December and singing at a special civic service in September at Temple Newsam House.

There is a strong tradition of choral music at St Mary’s Whitkirk. To ensure that this tradition continues to flourish we are always looking to recruit new choristers. The choir is open to children (from the age of 7) and to adults. If you would like more information about the choir or if you are interested in becoming a chorister at St Mary’s and wish to arrange a singing audition, please email the Director of Music at:- [email protected].

Many of our church choristers also sing in the Whitkirk Deanery Choir. Established in 2009, this choir has sung Choral Evensong at St Bartholomew’s Armley, Holy Trinity Wensley, Leeds Minster and, on ten occasions, at Ripon Cathedral. It has also led the singing at two other services at Ripon Cathedral – a ‘Diocesan Eucharist’ in 2015 and a service, in 2017, called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

St Mary’s Whitkirk is an affiliated member of the Royal School of Church Music.

The Organist and Director of Music was appointed in 2001 and is a member of the Royal College of Organists and the Guild of Musicians and Singers. He is also the organist and co-director of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir.
