There are a variety of groups and activities connected with the Church or which meet in the Community Centre. Please contact the organisers as listed below or through the ‘contact us’ page.

The choir of St Mary’s Whitkirk comprises soprano, alto, tenor and bass singers and is open to boys, girls, men and women. The choristers sing every Sunday morning at the Sung Eucharist (10:00am) and at Choral Evensong (6:00pm) on the first Sunday of the month and at other major services during the year including at Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost. The choristers of St Mary’s Whitkirk also sing at a special annual civic service which takes place in the Long Gallery at Temple Newsam House.

New choristers are always welcome. If you are interested in joining the choir or would like more information please contact the Director of Music [email protected]. Choir rehearsals take place before each choral service and on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. St Mary’s Whitkirk is an affiliated member of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). The Director of Music is an Area Consultant for the RSCM and a member of the Royal College of Organists.

The choristers of St Mary’s Whitkirk also sing as part of the Whitkirk Deanery Choir which was formed in 2009 and comprises choristers from a number of parish churches in the local deanery. The Whitkirk Deanery Choir has sung Choral Evensong at Ripon Cathedral, as a visiting choir, on ten occasions and has also led the singing there at two other major services – a ‘Diocesan Eucharist’ in 2015 and a service in 2017 called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.
