Prayers during Lent

Throughout Lent, we’re offering a time and space for prayer. On Tuesdays at 5.00 pm you can join us for the prayer for the day, either in person in the church, or online. On Thursdays, round off the day at 9.00 pm by joining us online for the calm of the night prayer.

Find out more at whitkirkchurch.org.uk/prayers.

Revision of electoral roll

Revision of the parish electoral roll will take place between 23 April and 7 May. If you are not currently on the electoral roll and wish to be, see our Electoral Roll Officer Catherine Sirrell or one of our churchwardens for an application form. Alternatively, send an email to [email protected].

Stations of the Cross

From the earliest of days, followers of Jesus told the story of his passion, death and resurrection. In the 1500s, villages all over Europe started creating replicas of the way of the cross, with small shrines commemorating the places along the route in Jerusalem – a way to make this small part of a pilgrimage accessible without travelling to the Holy Land. Eventually, these shrines became the set of fourteen Stations we now know and which are placed in so many Churches in the world.

This Good Friday you’re invited to join us in person at 7.30 pm as we travel the Stations, or you can follow the journey yourself on our website at whitkirkchurch.org.uk/stations, either on your own or guided by our recordings.

In partnership with churches in East Leeds, Connecting Crossgates will be providing food and activities and covering the Easter story for over 100 children and families over the Easter school break, and would love more people from across the churches to join in.

Help is needed with craft activities on tables, serving refreshments, wiping tables and tidying up. If you can spare an hour between 9.30 am and 2.30 pm, it would be appreciated!

Lent Course 2022: The Screwtape Letters

This Thursday 7 April at 7.30 pm
Whitkirk Community Centre

This year’s Lent Course explores our lives and faith through C.S. Lewis’ classic book ‘The Screwtape Letters’. First published in 1941, this collection of letters from a senior devil to his nephew providing advice on leading his assigned human astray, is still witty, readable, and recognisable. Over six weeks we’re reading passages from the book alongside scripture, and discussing and learning together.

You do not need to have read the whole book beforehand, and the relevant extracts will be provided for you at each session. However, we recommend you do read it if you can, if for no other reason than it’s a fantastic book! It is still in print today and is also easy to find second hand.

Pre-Easter retreat day with Bishop Nick

This Saturday 9 April at 10.00 am

Sung Eucharist for Palm Sunday with procession and dramatic reading of the Passion

Next Sunday 10 April at 10.00 am

Celebrate Jesus’s entrance to Jerusalem with us as we head into Holy Week by processing in song from the Community Centre to the church. Then during the service, we hear a dramatic reading of the Passion, setting our minds for the week to come.

Messy Church

Next Sunday 10 April at 4.00 pm
Whitkirk Community Centre

Church, but more hands-on. Join us in the Community Centre for drinks and a biscuit, get stuck in with activities around the week’s theme, and then end with a short, informal act of worship in the church.

Join us after the service for refreshments
